This was also a good point.

If the asterisks aren't actually part of the filenames, than the program you are running may require that the libraries be copied to the main library directory, or it may not find them.

Is probably the way you are listing it, where "*" means is executable.
Try "ls --color", so executables are green. It may also be the
terminal program you are using (you may try changing the terminal tye
setting).
