In the diagram, it looks like to me that the 8-bit connector on the top is
only connecting to the 8-bit connector of the unit underneath it. Since
it is an 8-bit card, it does not need the 16-bit portion of the bus.
If a card expects signals on the 16-bit portion of the bus, then only
plugging it into the 8-bit side won't work.
