Hi Jonathan,

Did you follow the notes I wrote?

Versions are important. The host tools on a new 2.6-based
distro might be too new, i.e., they may find problems
compiling old code.
One technique you can try is using the crosstools script
to build an 'old' host compiler (older than the default that
comes with the distro), and then use that host compiler
to build the cross-compiler (by putting it in the path
before your default host compiler). However, there's a
chance that if the host tool won't build a cross-compiler,
that it also won't build an old host compiler either.
I've used Centos 4.1 to build the tools without issues.
I'm about to put Centos 5.0 on a new laptop, but won't get
around to that for a few days. There's a Centos 5.0 bootable
CD-ROM. You could try that, and if you have trouble, I'll
take a shot too.
If a newer distro can not be used successfully, then another
solution would be to boot an old distro, eg. via a Knoppix
bootable CD-ROM, and then build a toolchain.
Cheers,
Dave
