Hi folks
If you want to make a cross toolchain (note the position of the
space) your best bet is to use crosstool (note the lack of a space).
Crosstool is a "community build script" that is used to build cross
toolchains, ie compiler/assembler/linker suites that run on one
computer architecture and generate code for another.
Crosstool's comprehensive home page is at kegel.com/crosstool
including a table of which compiler/binutils/libc versions are known
to work with which target processors.
You can find notes on how I used it to produce ARM *EABI* toolchains
last year at freaknet.org/martin/crosstool. You don't need EABI unless
you are going to change your userland software (i.e. everything other
than the bootloader and kernel) to one is compiled for EABI. See
wiki.debian.org/ArmEabiPort for gory details about EABI.
Making an old-ABI toolchain is a more well-worn path, and is
probably what you want, or for a fee I'll build the cross-compile to
do what you want.
