[ts-7000] Hyperterminal and bringing-up ts-7200

I am using hyperterminal with win XP, I connected the power supply,
serial cable as stated by the manual. When I turned the power on, I
see the red and green led light up and then green led stays on. So i
am assuming that the board booted up fine. but I see nothing, no boot
up messages on the hyperterminal. It is just blank. I have set it to
the correct settings as stated in the manual. What am I doing wrong?
Is there some other settings on hyperterminal that I am missing. Even
with minicom, i saw no messages. Either the board is faulty or the
COM1 port is not working. How do I determine that? I even tried COM2
with proper jumper settings. Appreciate any help - VG
