I found the answer, but Im not liking it. It seems that the EP9302 can
only do 115k. I need 500k or better AND 9 bit serial communication
mode.  Any simple solutions?
    

see if the FT232R usb to serial chip supports 9 bit
  

You'd trust a USB serial chip at 500k+ ? :)
