It does, at least in confirming that my take on the TS-7300 
landscape is pretty good.

However, it looks like I AM missing something on the 7800. Lattice 
DOES provide some free tools for developing for their FPGAs. There 
is a version of ispLever available that supports the ECP2, whereas I 
was originally only looking at their 'Designer Lite' which runs 
$1200+.

This re-muddies the decision somewhat. Since I won't really be able 
to get started for a couple weeks anyway, I guess a bit more 
research/consideration might be in order.
