I have not used AC97, but have used I2S to play and record sound with
the 7400.

We used the following:

1. Cirrus Logic CS4271 Codec Chip.
2. 2.4.26-ts11 kernel with I2S and Sound enabled in the kernel.
3. Apps which read & write to /dev/sound
   e.g. http://linux.about.com/library/cmd/blcmdl1_play.htm
