No, it means that devices like SD cards, IDE controllers, SCSI controllers, ect are what are called block devices.  I may have this totally wrong, but they're so called because they read/write in blocks.

Your problem with the SD controller on your boards is odd, what size of card are you using?  Have you tried a different card?  What is the md5sum of the sdcard.o on your board? (run 'md5sum /lib/modules/2.4.26-ts11/kernel/drivers/block/sdcard.o')  It should be 192b5815a54bbeb33a8c8bb6e994382e

If you have the might version of the sdcard.o then I would contact TS directly, altho some of their staff do frequent this list the best and fastest way to get a response from them is directly.
