You should have hotplug installed. It should do that for you. What
OS are you using? I'm running Debian for ARM and it has hotplug.

Qt/E is a whole bunch of things; it has a thousand widgets for things
like sliders, text boxes, input fields, etc. If you need stuff like
that it's handy. It's also big and slow.

I use Microwindows. It works just fine. It only provides a windowing
environment and a rudimentary window manager. It doesn't provide any
higher level widgets. You can use fltk for that but I don't use it.
