I don't blame you. I didn't want to replace the flash image, either!
I was so happy the 7260 booted to Linux out of the box that I didn't
want to break it by messing with the flash image.
But the procedure is pretty easy to follow, and if you use tftpboot to
test the changes first, it is not nearly as daunting as it appears.
You can see that the new kernel would work and, at that point,
updating the flash seems like a very good and easy thing to do.
Also, once you update the flash you realize that you can always go
back to the 'stock' image on flash, if you like.
That was my experience, anyway.
Good Luck,

the wiki ( http://www.seiner.com/ts7000/index.php/Booting to SDCard )
a way of doing this but it seem to require replacing the actual image
of the on-board flash and I would prefer to avoid that. Is it possible
to use the same principle as presented in the wiki but use
bootload/bootloader/o to and accomplish this? If this is possible,
which files should I download and where should I place them, that is,
on the on-board flash or in the SD card?
