I think that depends on the camera.....  My Olympus runs off the
camera battery.  I haven't played with my Canon enough to tell yet.  I
suspect my wife's Pentax also runs from the battery.

It's not that big a deal, though - some cameras take 5V and others
3.?... voltage regulators are dirt cheap.
