If you need interactive communication with the host PC, like driving the robot
with a joystick almost like a RC car, then you need socket communications. Go
here, grab a copy of one of these documents, print it out, read it, and run
through all the examples. That's what I did. After that you should have a good
enough understanding of sockets to do what socket programming you will need to
do. http://beej.us/guide/bgnet/

If you don't need interactive communication, create a file full of robot
commands, send it to the SBC via ftp and then have a system to execute the
commands. 99% of machine tools such as lathes and milling machines work like
this (DNC).

Whichever route you go, you will need a protocol for your commands. I would
first search the web for some sort of standard command language. You can create
your own, such as A1,10,CW for "axis 1, 10 degress Clockwise", or use the time
honored "G00 X1 Y2 Z3" commands common on machine tools.

Hope that helps.
Joe
