No your approach (as explained above - not as previously explained) is
fine. I've no idea why DIO_0 won't work, given that DIO_7 does. And I
assume DIO_[1-6] ?

A _possible_ explanation might be that the port is damaged. Have you
connected inputs that might have been >3.3v ???

I have a general purpose program for controlling the DIO port bits, and
the LCD port bits (and for accessing ADC inputs with the MAX 197 chip
fitted). But I only have a ts7200. I think the program should work on
the ts7300. It's accessible from my TS7200 web page at.....
