I just got my TS-72x0 board...  I'm starting to play with it, and one of
the first things I realized is that the DIO doesn't provide enough
current to drive a relay....

Initially I need to just turn on an LED, but eventually I need to be
able to switch 120 VAC and 24-48 VDC at household-type current draws.

Unfortunately I am not a hardware guy....  But I know this isn't unusual
- does anyone have any pointers, howto, or guidance I can use to educate
myself?

I don't know how other people would do it, but I'm going to connect the dio pin from the ts7200 to an opto-isolator and use the output from the opto isolator to drive a relay.  The reason I'm using an opto-isolator is because the the two parts of the circuit are optically isolated, the risk damaging my ts7200 if something goes wrong with my circuit is virtually nil.

Just make sure to put a diode in across the load if you use a relay or anything with a coil (motor, solonoid).  See this article: http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/trancirc.htm
