Mike,
Why do you say Linux is not a real time OS. With 2.6 kernel,
with preemptive schedular, it is certainly approaching real time domains.
There are many vendors selling real time linux like monta vista.
One thing  that may be tried is getting kernel 2.6 on the ts-7xxx boards.
