Ok, i have found a solution for my problem. If I stop the powersave damon (rcpowersaved stop in Suse) everything works fine again. Obviously if the powersave damon wants to change CPU frequency the UHCI controller is not happy about it. I can also reproduce this with the cpufreq utils. So I do not think its a problem of the PWC driver which works perfect now.

Do other people have the same experience?

Yes, lots. I cannot really use Quickcam 4000 for a long time periods until it
(the driver) always finally gets "broken" and I have to restart the
application. Before also this caused kernel Oops in the USB audio driver and also killed PS/2-keyboard ans serial-mouse, but those bugs seem to
have been fixed now in the latests kernels.
See

Now when pwc driver fails, after application is quit, pwc driver is
reloaded and video-device could be opened again.

Is this a PWC driver problem or general USB kernel problem with isochronous pipes?

I have a theory, it could be because the decompression in the pwc driver
needs too much CPU power compared what my PC platform can provide when
there is a >1.0 load. The driver cannot keep up with the CPU power it
has been given and eventually lower level USB drivers call it quit.

As I exlain in the bug report, I remember it working for days without
errors, but I cannot remember with what kernel and driver combination it
was then. At least from year 2003 (... /motion/old/2003/12/30/ )
I have motion video logs which continued for days.
