Sound Devices 744, with the front in mid/side mode MKH 30/40, backed up wi=
th two MKH 20=92s in a Walt Knapp modified SASS, or spread out. Comments on=
this config would be appreciated. I have learned to really love Mid-side, =
thank you Bernie.

My four-channel rig is two MKH 8020s on a Jecklin disk as a front imaging a=
rray, and two widely spaced 8020s as uncorrelated rear channels. We both fo=
llow the pattern suggested here many years ago by Rich Peet: use your favor=
ite imaging array for the front, then spaced omnis for the rears.
The MS =93single point=94 pair is much easier to handle than a Jecklin, whi=
ch has to be broken down for transport. I prefer the Jecklin because it has=
ear-spaced mics, more spatially harmonious with headphone listening which =
is so common now. On speakers the difference between them is little. ORTF i=
s an ear-spaced array that is as conveniently packaged as MS; our listmate =
Greg Weddig uses that to great effect.
