Early frog, bird singing + other weird stuff

With the wet northern California winter, we had Pacific chorus frogs as ear=
ly as Xmas, and bird-song as early as late January. Our feeder has drawn ho=
use-finches w/ yellow heads, and red crossbills, phenomena we=92ve never se=
en or heard before this early (although the dawn choruses around here have =
tended to begin and peak a couple weeks earlier then when I first began rec=
ording in this area in 1993).

Today, my wife and I found a badly injured red-tailed hawk on our property,=
covered it gently with a soft blanket and took it to the nearby bird rescu=
e center where it has a good chance of recovery.

We=92ll begin recording dawn choruses in the next 10 days or so=85as soon a=
s the weather breaks, again.

nitely early, while I would guess that the Tundra Swans are early as well (=
65 reported in the local area).

ebruary 25th. They are at least a month early.
