Peter,
Generally, non rechargeable give a longer life and rechargeable are cheaper=
to run as you don't chuck them. One snag is that you can't carry
rechargeable lithiums in aircraft unless they are part of a powered device=
such as a laptop.
The best battery life I get is from Duracell Professional dry cells, Any
rechargeable cells I've tried don't last nearly as long.
An alternative is to use an external 3V nominal battery pack for your Sony.=
Then it can be as big as you like.
What is important is the voltage end point, and NiMH rechargeables start of=
f
at a lower voltage of 1.2V per cell, leaving less reserve. Sony don't seem=
to specify a battery end point.
I use lead-acid batteries for my mixer which are heavy but last well, but
they only come in multiples of 2V. Sony would probably not approve of
running on 4V.
