You might find this interesting, if a bit too long, - an ant hill with a pair of Schaller Oyster (piezo) guitar pickups. In the last 3 min or so, a piezo lifted from an old TI pocket notebook glued to the top of a tin can. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/a1qomfe46rd37a4/AAB2pjV6bTjSa6nlR2M8-PP5a?dl=0 I also tried mounting the Schallers on a tongue depressor to get a better stereo image -needs more experimentation to get the spacing right. I haven't done much with this since '13, (been distracted with other things, but I still lurk here occasionally), but I did also try the Schallers held to a tree with one of those ratcheting straps for a cartop carrier. Was interesting for recording carpenter ants at work. I love the idea of the woodpecker. That was on my list too, as there are quite a few Pileated Woodpeckers in the same wood where this was shot.
