Hi Everyone

I have been recording nature sounds, particularly bird sounds and soundscap=
es, for some time. But I would still like to call myself a novice amateur i=
n this field. Because all I do in the field is hold the recorder or microph=
one still, aimed at the sound source. Come home. Dump it all in the compute=
r. Chop off the unnecessary parts. Push up the volume a bit. And share it e=
ither on xeno-canto or on my blog/social media after converting the WAV int=
o MP3. This works fine upto a point. But I would like to take it to the nex=
t level where the recordings are more sophisticated than what they are now.=
More importantly, I want to understand the basics of the various technolog=
ies that are working in the background - albeit now in a palm sized machine=
and also learn the dos and don'ts of field craft.

I understand that Bernie Krause has a very good book on the subject (which =
I am in the process of acquiring. In India it costs double the US retail pr=
ice. So have to wait for a friend to return from the US). However, I think =
that book is more about field craft and nature. I was wondering if I could =
read a good book on the principles of sound, the science behind it and post=
-processing/editing of captured sound. Not that I want to tamper with the s=
ound or change it in any way but I am sure there is more to post processing=
than just push up the volume a bit.

Most of the books in the market, I find, are targeted at the film or music =
industry. Is there anything more specific for hobby nature sound recordists=
?

Some help and guidance will be much appreciated.

If you are interested, I live in India and use a Marantz PMD 661 Mk II and =
Sennheiser K6/ME66. I started with an Edirol R09HR.

Kind regards and thanks for your time

Sudipto
