Jacek,

It is not the choice of mic which gives you a quality recording, it is where
you put it.

Any good mic can give you a good recording except for one factor which is
important with wildlife recording, and that is noise. The published noise
figure for the DPA 4060 (ITU-R BS.468-4: typ. 35 dB max. 38 dB) is about 10
dB more hissy than I would be happy with, I can't find an equivalent quote
for the 4022. However, you are asking about depth.

Depth comes with stereo recording and I would not use a twin omni rig, but
be prepared for replies from those using Blumlein type rigs. Cardioid mics
set close at 90 degrees apart or an M-S pair will give a good stereo image
in many locations

Depth with wildlife recording comes with the feeling of distance as well as
stereo width and placement. This depth comes from the environment which you
are recording and the mic placing. I like woodland recording where close
birds are not only louder, but they have less woodland reverberation than
more distant birds.

With quiet mics and a quiet background, listen for tree reflections and the
effect of distance on the bird calls. An echo gives an excellent depth
effect, especially if it comes from a different direction from the bird or
animal itself.

For any stereo mic rig, it is the distant natural sounds which are
important, and the close ones will often look after themselves.
