Peter, The theory says that the "dummy head" method needs a dummy head the same dimensions and reflective property as a real head. The mics then pick up exactly (ish) what your ears would and this goes into each headphone earpiece. I've always had longish hair as I prefer that sound to my ears. As a child = I hated the sound of a short back and sides haircut. Experimenting with a dummy head, I got a better sound placement with an absorbent layer on the back, including a good front to rear discrimination. A backpack setup would be more Blumlein than dummy head but worth trying if= you have a non-creaky pack. David Brinicombe |
