Jonathon,
My quick & easy rig is Olympus LS10 with Telinga clip-on mics attached
to a headband, but you could just use a pair of EM172s in the same
way. Great for walking. Problems are breathing noise (it is better
breathing with your mouth open), and not being able to turn your
head. But depending on what you are recording, you can quickly put
the headband around a rock, stump etc. etc., or carry a piece of
string with you & tie the headband to a tree trunk. Set the recorder
running and walk away. Then you can watch the bird activity, eat a
snack, stretch out, whatever, without interfering with the recording. =
You should be able to get some great recordings this way, and you
cannot get a lighter rig than this, it is perfect for bushwalking.
