Theoretically if you blank off the rear, it= will disable the fig-8 element of the cardioid pair and produce an omni-ish= response. It works on small cylindrical type end-on csrdioid mics but the frequency response may be a bit odd with a side-on type mic. You can't do this electrically inside the mic as the common output of the omni and fig-8 elements is the single shared semi-perforated backplate. Mic= diaphragms are normally grounded to prevent electrostatic pickup. Try it with a few layers of 2" gaffer tape using a piece of tissue to keep= the sticky off the mic. An elastic band will hold it in place. Let us know= what the modified polar pattern sounds like. David Brinicombe |
