Hi Paul,=0D
I am a bit surprised to hear that about the Switchcraft, as the 35HDRANAU =
has been my primary 3.5mm connector over the last 10 years or so. I have ma=
ybe a half a dozen of them on various pip mics and adapter cables. I have y=
et to hear a crackle, and I have never had to clean them - though it is pro=
bably about time for that. I have not come across the recessed jack issue y=
et. Mostly I have used them with Sony Minidisc, Hi-MD, and now the PCM-M10.=

I have had no issues with Neutrik one either, except that they do, as you =
say, only work with very thin cables.=0D

Following up on Vicki's recommendation of the Neutrik gold 3.5mm right ang=
le plug, I have been using them for several years now, and I love them. My =
only complaint with them is that they are a challenge to solder, especially=
for beginners, or when using thicker cables. They work well with a single =
strand of Canare Starquad L-4E5C or a double-strand of the Mogami W3031 bal=
anced Lavaliere cable. I searched through several RA 3.5 connectors before =
settling on the Neutriks, which stand up to very heavy student abuse. =0D

By all means, stay away form the Switchcraft connectors- not only are they=
noisy (they tarnish quickly and no amount of deoxit will restore them), th=
e design makes them unuseable with some recessed jacks. There are some RA c=
onnectors out there with plastic covers- the covers don't stay attached for=
any amount of love or money; and with newbie solderers, the plastic insula=
tion in the plug melts pretty quickly.=0D
