Ah, I didn't realise you are flying out on that day. I have been on a hike =
around West Head, however, when I was there, there were very few birds arou=
nd. The only places that I have found that are really away from the noise a=
re the Blue Mountains (e.g. Kanangra-Boyd National Park) and Wollemi Nation=
al Park. You'll find some quiet places in the Royal National Park, however,=
I have not encountered much birdlife there. If it's a Sunday morning you *=
might* be lucky in the Lane Cove National Park, however, I'm pretty certain=
that the gates to the actual park will be closed as well. In general my ex=
perience is that in Australia I need to drive at least 2 hours from any maj=
or city and then walk another 45-60 minutes until I am in a truly noise-fre=
e environment. This was certainly my experience when I lived in Sydney, how=
ever, others might be luckier or know the area better or have other suggest=
ions :)
Hope this helps in any way,
Eric
