Subject: The ability to edit on the disk with a simple interface was an enabling technology. I helped found a radio station for young people that ran entirely off MD tech - no need for computers with their expense, security, and training hassles. Eleven-year-olds put together their own radio programmes, from interview to master. And the gear was inexpensive.
Today there is no equivalent workflow without paying six figures for a pro
radio asset management system. (If there is, let me know!) Which is one reason
independent producers have transitioned to podcasts. Which are not the same
thing, especially in their social dimension.

I will remember MD with fondness.
