Correction:
The principle was used decades ago,
should be: The principle with adding a mic preamp to another mic
preamp was used decades ago...
when all professional nature recordists had problems with the input
noise of the Nagra III. Sten Wahlstr=F6m then designed a very low noise
preamp using a transformer and the lowest noise input transistor that
the time could offer, 2n930. I don't think it amplified more than 20
dB, but it was enough.
I am now comparing a SSM system connected directly to the Sony D-50,
rated as one of the best recorders with it's -126 dBu. Another SSM
system is connected via the Telinga preamp to a Zoom H4n, rated -107
dBu. I will also try the SSM via the Telinga preamp with a Zoom video
camera q3HQ, input noise unknown, and I wish lend a Zoom H2, which
Raimund rated to -99dBu.
If the Telinga preamp "makes a D-50 out of a Zoom H2 and a strange
video camera", why not?
Klas.
