Starving P48 mics

I mentioned Cad M-179's (15.9mV/Pa 11DB-A) in a recent post, mentioning the=
ir 8ma draw and my reluctance to use them with my HDP2 and PMD661. I was us=
ing them in a mid-side array and was pretty happy with the results but when=
I considered the current draw, it frightened me off.

I've been experimenting with a pair of PCC160's (22mV/Pa 22DB-A) ORTF fashi=
on, and I like the imaging, but I'm finding them just too noisy.

I spent part of yesterday trying to get 'freitojos' some forest stuff, but =
it was a very quiet day and I'm not happy with the hissy results -unless so=
meone wants some *really* loud Red Squirrel calls ;)

Can anyone advise me on the risks I'm running by using the Cad's again?
Both recorders spec 10ma max phantom current. Will a 16ma load just reduce =
mic performance or toast the power supply?

Thanks!
Keith
