I would have thought the best thing is to send the recording to your local =
council so they can get a general idea of the level of the problem, rather =
than exact measurements. Then hopefully they'll send someone out to measure=
the levels themselves.=0D
=0D
The biggest problem with trailbike complaints is that they've generally dis=
appeared by the time the council officer arrives. But if it goes on all day=
then they might be more likely to bother coming out.=0D
=0D
What they can do about it is another thing, but hopefully at least the culp=
rits (or their parents) might get the message that it's annoying.=0D

Subject: [Nature Recordists] measuring noise levels - help needed=0D

Its spring in Australia, the birds are singing, but school holidays=0D
have just started and kids on motor bikes are doing constant circuits=0D
on the property next door. One new 2-stroke bike is particularly=0D
annoying. There is a 1-minute recording of it on SoundCloud here:=0D

=0D
I would like to be able to get a rough estimate of its noise level=0D
for legal reasons. Does anyone know how I can estimate a decibel=0D
reading from this recording? Details of equipment are on SoundCloud.=0D
=0D
My legal advice is that I have 'an entitlement to the quiet enjoyment=0D
of my property' and that the 2-stroke motorbike noise constitutes 'a=0D
legal nuisance'.=0D
=0D
Being able to measure the actual noise level would be a bonus.=0D

Thanks in advance,=0D
