n > Dan, what bit rate would you consider acceptable for mp3 recording? I did a blind listening test at an NSS Workshop, and 256K bits/sec was indistinguishable from the original on a dawn chorus. Pushing lower rates depends on the material and that requires trial and error. There's an expen= sive plug-in available now, Sonnox/Fraunhofer Pro Codec, that lets you monitor i= n real time switching between original and various codecs and data rates. Wou= ld be great for setting up a web site with audio, you could encode different clip= s at different rates depending on how they sounded or looked on a spectrogram. -Dan |
