I have an Olympus LS-7($90 at a local store...could NOT pass up that deal!)=
, but one issue I'm running into when attempting to record with EXTERNAL mi=
c's is that the "zoom" feature that digitally alters the stereo pattern, co=
ntinues to work. The problem with this is that it's default setting is rel=
atively "narrow" and seems to reduce the spatiality of recordings, while an=
y setting beyond neutral(which should increase the spatiality), introduces =
excessive self noise. Originally thinking I had a defective unit, I've no=
w exchanged it twice, (for a total of 3 units), with the exact same results=
. I've gone over the detailed owners manual available from Olympus' site,=
but cannot find any method of simply straight recording without this "impr=
ovement". I know that other models of Olympus recorders also include the =
zoom mic. so if any of you are familiar with them, is there any way to comp=
letely turn that feature off, and simply record the channels as fed in? =
