Hi, I used extensively the first series of SongMeter and only occasionally
the current version, which has longer recording capabilities on 4 SD cards.
They work very well, you can accurately program them according to the
daylight cycle, you can also set different sampling rates at each recording
period. They are rugged enough to be left in any weather conditions,
however it could be safer to mount the unit on a wood plate with a "roof",
well spaced from mics, but able to avoid direct rain on mics.
The only disadvantage compared with a good recording setup is the self
noise that appears higher. So expect to have a white noise floor in your
recordings.
