Lizzie and all,

I let Syntec know today about the fizzing mic. They apologized and
said 'we would like to have the unit back for further testing' and '
we tested all units from the last shipment and all units performed to
specifications without issue'.

I think I'm at the stage where I will be asking for my money back as
there does not seem to be a resolution in sight, obviously Sennheiser
have mis-diagnosed the problem, or else I've been sent mics from an
old batch but surely that is unlikely.

Lizzie, this is how I have had my latest 8020 mics mounted, you will
see the 'Powys Angled Wing' down near the bottom of this page on my
website:

http://www.caperteebirder.com/index.php?p=1_27_recording-gear-2

I use the rig with 3 layers of windshielding, 1. thin lycra stretched
over the frame, 2. a thin woolen beanie pulled over everything and 3.
a loose-knit furry beanie as the final cover. This is enough to
protect from light breezes and also to protect the mics from the
direct atmosphere, moisture etc.

cheers,

Vicki
