DSD is an alternative form of digital audio recording developed by the Sony=
-Philips consortium. Standard digital audio uses the PCM system. Properly d=
one, recordings in either format will sound the same.

My cynical take on DSD is that it was an attempt by Sony to get customers t=
o buy all new Sony equipment for their entire production chain, based on qu=
estionable claims of superior performance.
