> I use 2 Audio Technica AT4022's for my nature recording and would like to=
know if it's really worth the $900 each for the upgrade to the Sennheiser =
MKH20's? I usually record in a boundary array but also like to record hand =
holding them in a pistol grip. The AT4022 really exhibit low self noise.
I have six 3032s (predecessor to the 4022) and I have had occasional proble=
ms with popping or fizzing when they are out overnight. It's an individual =
mic thing--the majority of them have never made noises. Though the capsules=
' threads were glued, they can be removed, though I did cosmetic damage to =
two that had more glue. Replacement/spare capsules for 3032 are $70, I thin=
k.
I have tested mine by putting them in the refrigerator while monitoring the=
m. That will cause condensation and stimulate the problem if the mic has it=
.
