John, apart from Messiaen and others already mentioned, try the 1st movemen= t of Mahler's 1st symphony (cuckoo); Beethoven's 6th symphony, the "Pastoral"= (nightingale, quail & cuckoo in the 2nd movement); Leopold Mozart's Toy Symphony (cuckoo & other birds); Finnish composer Rautavaara's 'Cantus Arcticus' which has actual recordings of common cranes; and Brazilian composer Villa-Lobos' "Uirapuru" (which is the Brazilian name for Musician= Wren). One of my recordings of a Musician Wren has been transcribed and published as a score for oboe/flute and guitar by an English composer, Tom= Eastwood, but I'm not aware of recordings.
