The 2 easiest solutions is either a threaded insert or a t-nut. Here is a t-nut at Woodcraft.com: t-nut <http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/2001695/2984/1420-TNuts.aspx> Here is a page of threaded inserts at SmallParts.com: threaded inserts <http://tinyurl.com/2b6qfnx> The one you want, if you have a 1/4" 20 tripod screw (which is US standard) is this one <http://tinyurl.com/24oedqx> Both are installed in wood & are easier to deal with than futzing around with nuts, glue, etc. To install the t-nut you drill a 5/16" hole & tap in the shaft until the prongs sink into the wood. To install the threaded insert you drill a 3/8" hole & screw the insert into the wood using a hex wrench. Both can be purchased at your local big-box hardware store, if you must, or find a woodworking supply shop (they're quite fun to browse for ideas!). John |
