For those who are equalizing thier LR stereo recordings in M-S, I have
stumbled on something tonight that may be of some interest. The
apQualizr plugin supports this operation with what it calls M-S stereo
mode.
On the lower right of the interface is a section labled 'stereo mode'.
If you select the M-S button, your source LR stereo signal is encoded
to M-S, filters are applied as you define them, and then the signal is
decoded back to LR for you. This would replace using a pair of +matrix
plugs and separate EQs. You can even specify whether to apply each
filter to the mid or the side signal or both.
The manual has a bit more and a picture.
The one short coming of this mode as far as I can tell is that you
cannot independently adjust the gain of each signal, you still only
get the master gain which affect both signals. Please let us know of
you find an answer to this. Otherwise you can always follow the
apQualizr with a pair of +matrix as necessary.
I was pretty psyched to find this feature staring me in the face. Hope
this helps out someone else as well.
Happy EQing
David
