Hello,

you have yourself quite a pro rig already !

No particular experience with the SQN mixers, but they are bound to be top-=
notch machines..

I would advice you as follows

you should switch on the M/S routing in your mixer, so you can encode the s=
ignal into normal stereo - use the dials in each individual channel to set-=
up the balance between M and S - and then use the master dial to pump up th=
e gain so you can feed your recorder.

Since you use high quality external preamps, the gain on your recorder shou=
ld be as low as possible - so you can control the input gain from your prea=
mp and bypass all possible unwanted noises from your recorder circuity - th=
at' s why you got yourself an external preamp in the first place..

another way to work would be to record in MS and then decode into XY stereo=
in post production - depends on how you like to work..

BTW you don' t mention which fostex machine you own, most of them have real=
ly decent preamps !

out the M/S stereo image in post-production?

ork together. The mixer has a master dB dial as well as the dial for each c=
hannel. The Fostex also has two mix trim dials and a recording level dial. =
So - if I monitor the mixer and manage to get a good sound - I'm wondering =
how to set the Fostex so that it will get the best out of the mixer signal.=
The reason I got the mixer was that someone on a forum explained that the =
pre-amps on the Fostex weren't particularly great - and a mixer with quiet =
would really help.
