Hi Stuart--
It is puzzling to be getting distracting amounts of noise with the ME66->SD=
Message: 702.

If we assume for now that the SD 702 isn't
contributing any noise, that narrows the search
down to mics, powering and cables. Phantom
powering on the Sennheiser makes it less suspect.

Mics Self-noise
K6/ME66=A0 10 dB(A)
NT-4 16 dB(A)

For starters, lets listen for a noticeable
difference in noise performance between the NT-4
and ME66. How about putting both mics side by
side in the open air in the middle of the room,
run the NT-4 on phantom power (if you can find
that cable) record 3 minutes of room tone with
55-60 dB gain and then do the same with the ME66
for 3 minutes. Before you start, turn off and
unplug everything in the room. Run only on
battery power, not ac. If need a host to upload
the 2- 3minute wav files to, contact me off list
