Hi all,
I am looking to buy some binaural mics to go with Sony PCM-M10 recorder. I
have narrowed it down to either Core Sound binaural mics ($300), the Core Sound
high end binaural mics ($1000), or the Sonic Studios DSM-6s mics ($1000 with
windscreen). Does anyone have any advice on the matter? In particular with
respect to the difference between each of the two Core Sound ones -- what could
possibly make it $700 more to go with the high end ones? Are they really that
much better or am I getting a good product with the lower end ones? I am new
to field recording so I don't necessarily want to invest too much yet, but I do
want quality mics, especially for travel recording.
Mainly I want versatile recording -- both calm, relatively quiet nature
environments, but also busy places with lots of people, like crowded markets.
I've read the Shure W183s which I know are very popular with nature recordists
distort in places with sudden noises like cars driving by -- I'll probably get
those too just because they are so cheap, but I'd like something that can
capture a good urban scene and be stealthy as well.
Appreciate any advice!
Thanks,
gene
