Repairing Clipping

Subject: Repairing Clipping

In a recent post on the bagpipe recording Dan Dugan said something that int=
rigued me:

"Since it isn't simple clipping, I don't think there's any way to repair th=
e recording."

Dan could you (or others) tell me more about this repair ? I thought if a r=
ecording was clipped then nothing could be done. I use Audition as my routi=
ne editor and have tried the simple gain adjuster (amplify/fade), but if so=
mething really has gone beyond limits I have not been able to pull it down =
and make it sound better.

Thanks for any tips.

Chris
