Hi Debbie--
I'd try fine sandpaper or steel wool to slowly remove all crud on all
four battery contacts. Put new batteries in and see what happens. As
you probably know, rechargeable batteries drain on the shelf-- even
when not used and its not wise to mix batteries of different types or
charge states. Some 9 volt battery cases are a tad shorter and may
not be making good contact. For these, use a cardboard shim to push
the battery contacts up snug or pull the contact spring in the tray
out a bit to create a tighter fit. Its probably best to take the
batteries out after each use if you don't use it frequently. Get back
if it still doesn't work. Rob D.
