|You have a choice of two
| kits: one featuring the longer, Softie fur (Part # 055403, $33.00 Pro
| Net Price), the other kit is using the shorter, Mini-Windjammer fur
| (Part # 055402, $22.00 Pro Net Price).

I bought the #055403 product, here are some further details.

It comes with the silk like lining material Rycote use, this is excellent
stuff IMO; size 10.5 x 7inches + the fake fur fabric 10.25 x 7.1inch also a
5in strip pair of Velcro.
The fur length is for sure less than any made up Windjammers I have seen.
It's a bit hard to measure but i would say the DIY kit fur length is a
little under 1" (say 22mm) & my windjammers are about 1.5in. But the
Windjammers have quite a wild Punky spiky cut & the DIY kit fur is smooth,
or more even length. It seem V like what they use on the new'ish S series
zeppelins.
Not too surprisingly the DIY kit is less good than the Windjammers at
reducing wind noise.

>From my searches in the UK, I think I can find fake fur that would probably
perform as well as Part # 055403, for way less than Rycote charge, but have
not come accross any fabric as good as their lining material. What i have
found impossible to find (not looked that hard to be honest) is "fur" as
long as the classic windjammer.
However open cell foam, of 10mm (3/8th In) sold as loudspeaker cover or
"cloth" is available here and is great stuff at reducing wind noise with
minimal acoustic damage. Dead cheap too. (well when compared to fine if a
tad expensive products from Rycote).
BTW non't even consider using regular foam "rubber" it may stop wind noise
but also most of your HF!
