The rule is to get the capsules (inside the mic) as close together as possi=
ble. Since they're going to be physically separated, they are best aligned =
so that the distance is minimized in the horizontal plane, since stereo dir=
ectivity is a horizontal thing (think left and right speakers). So the caps=
ules should be positioned one above the other. That equalizes the path dist=
ance from sources in the horizontal plane.

The closer this is to right, the higher in frequency M/S processing (like c=
onversion to left-right) will be accurate. For reference, a 20 KHz wave is =
about half an inch long, meaning a spacing of 1/2 wave, 1/4" will produce a=
 null when summed. Put the center point of one diaphragm over the center po=
int of the other.
