[Nature Recordists] Battery v phantom power

Hi all
I was listening to a recording from a Rodes NTG 2 into a Fostex FR2-le. and 
thought it was a bit noisy. The Rodes was powered by a battery. Would one get a 
clearer recording it phantom was used?
