No the mkh mics need 48v phantom power.  So to use them with a PCM D50 you need 
a preamp that will provide phantom power [like you mix pre].  You could then 
come out of the mix pre and into the PCM D50.  Using these mics, the PIP that 
the recorder provides is irrelevant.  Sony makes a box for the PCM D50 that 
provides XLR ins and phantom power, but this would provide basically the same 
thing as you mix pre, so I'd just use the mix pre.
